….. Or the closest thing you’ll see to an official disclaimer here =)
I don’t like to stage photos so everything (or almost everything) you see in my photos, happened the way it is portrayed. I don’t like to shoot strangers so everyone (or almost everyone) you see in my photos is a friend or a friend of friends and if you are reading this, there’s a big chance you are one of them.
Although it’s the same people and the same events, the criteria I use to post a photo on Facebook or Picasa is completely different than the ones I apply here.
Here is all about aesthetics, geometry, the way light & shadow play on surfaces and how effectively all that communicates a message or causes a reaction on the viewer.
…
I believe that most of my work as a photographer has to be done before the *click* and everything I do after that, are just slight corrections I couldn’t do while taking the picture like color balance/temperature, contrast and sharpening, and very occasionally dodge, burn and crop.
When it comes to editing, I draw the line where the work transforms your picture into something it was not when you shot it.
To give you an example, Little Red Riding Wood is (so far) the most edited photo here. It was shoot without flash in a dark room with ambient light only. I’ve darken the background to make her stand out a bit more and lighten her face to soften the harsh shadows cast by the light source bellow.
This doesn’t mean I won’t edit a photo beyond this point. In fact I do it often just to “undo” some unintended changes caused by any of the processes above. For example, if tweaking the contrast and color temperature makes someone’s skin look like the moon’s surface with freckles, I will do whatever it takes to correct it.
Please keep this in mind while viewing my work.
